CDS Examination Pattern:
The entrance for Central Defense Services comprises of a Written Exam followed by and Intelligence and Personality Test. The details follow:

CDS exam Eligibility Criteria:

Age criteria
  • For IMA: 19 years to 24 years.
  • For Naval Academy: 19 years to 22 years.
  • For Air Force Academy: 19 years to 23 years.
  • For Officers Training Academy: 19 years to 25 years
Qualification Required
  • Those candidates are applying for IMA / officers training academy they must have any degree from any recognized university/ institute.
  • Applicants who are applying for Indian Naval Academy (INA) should possess a bachelor’s degree in Engineering 
    from any recognized university.
  • And Contenders who are applying for Air Force Academy (ACA) those candidates must have a degree inengineering from any recognized university/ institute with physics and math’s at 10+2.

 

“Are girls eligible for this Exam?”- CDS Exam

Yes, girls can apply for this examination and they are similar to boys. There is no specific criterion for girls. They just need to get good marks to clear the cut off. The CDS Exam Pattern for Girls only give opportunities for Indian Girls to join OTA. These girl aspirants should be unmarried. The issue less widow and divorcee who have not re-married can apply for the vacancies.

General (but important) instructions about written examination
  • The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective (MCQ) Type questions only.
  • SI units will be used in the papers and Candidates should use only International form of Indian numerals (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question papers.
  • Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
  • Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the  Examination Hall.
Interview
  • The Union Public Service Commission will declare a qualified list of candidates (based on the written exam).
  • The selected candidates will appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test.
  • The total maximum marks for the interview will be 200 for OTA and 300 for IMA, Naval and Air Force.
  • Candidates for the Air Force wing and Naval Aviation will also undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.

Two Stage Selection Procedures
  • Two stage selection procedure will be based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test
  • All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers.
  • Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage.
  • Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of :
    • Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth 
    • Bachelors Degree along with mark sheets in support of educational qualification 

    • For final qualification, candidates should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in       
         (i) Written examination and      
         (ii) SSB test as fixed by the Commission in their discretion.

    • Qualified candidates will then be placed in the final orderof merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the written examination and the Services Selection Board Tests 
    • The final selection for admission will be made in order of merit depending on the number of vacancies in each wing.
    • The selection will be subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects.

    CDS Exam Syllabus Details:

    Paper 1: English
    The objective type question paper is designed to examine the understanding of English of the applicants. English question paper of CDS Exam includes passage for answering few questions related to that passage.

    Paper 2: General Knowledge
    General Knowledge question paper in CDS examination includes knowledge of current topics and of matters which are observing every day. The aspirants must be able to answer scientific aspects without any particular scientific study. They should have knowledge of History of India and Geographical issues without any specific study. The applicants must be able to answer these general knowledge questions to pass this test.

    Paper 3: Elementary Mathematics
    The objective type question paper includes various topics of elementary mathematics. Candidates should have posses knowledge about these topics. There are lots of topics to cover which are as following:
    • Arithmetic: Aspirants need to perform well in arithmetic which includes Number System, Fundamental Operations, Unitary Methods, and Elementary Number Theorems etc.
    • Algebra: The applicants should able to solve basic operations, Remainder Theorem, Quadratic Equations, Linear equations and practical problems etc.
    • Geometry: The candidates should able to answer geometric questions which contain Lines and angles, plane and plane figures and their related questions.
    • Trigonometry: The applicants need to know the values of Sine x, cosine x and tangent x.
    • Menstruation: The all candidates applying for the test should have knowledge of calculating areas of squares, rectangles, triangles, circles and parallelograms etc.
    • Statistics: Everyone needs to know the collection and tabulation of data, histograms, pie and bar charts etc.
    All these above mentioned fields have been included in the mathematics question paper so the aspirants must have good knowledge in elementary mathematics. The candidates need to be good in calculation and more basic operations so that they can perform well in the examination.
