About The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination
conducted on rotation by 14 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to
their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M.).
The 14 participating NLUs in the order of their establishment are:

Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU)

The first
CLAT Core Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellors of the seven participating
NLUs at that time decided that the test shall be conducted by rotation in the
order of their establishment. Accordingly, the first Common Law Admission Test
(CLAT) was conducted in the year 2008. Now there are 14 participating NLUs and
following the practice the seventh Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) will be conducted
by the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar in 2014.
The fourteen NLUs mentioned above offer a number of five-year integrated
under-graduate law courses leading to B.A. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B.,
B.S.W. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) degrees. While B.A. LL.B. is offered by most
of the universities, B.Sc. LL.B. Course is offered by WBNUJS (Kolkata), NLU
(Jodhpur) and GNLU (Gandhinagar). B.B.A. LL.B. is offered by NLU (Jodhpur),
GNLU (Gandhinagar), CNLU (Patna) and NLUO (Cuttack); whereas B.S.W. LL.B. and
B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) degree courses are offered by GNLU (Gandhinagar) alone.
To be
eligible to appear in CLAT-2014, a candidate should have obtained a Higher
Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a
recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC
and ST candidates) and should be below 20 years of age as on 1st July 2014 (22 years
in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates) *. Candidates
who are appearing in March/April, 2014 or have appeared in the 10+2 examination
and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test. However, such
candidates are required to have passed the qualifying examination at the time
of their
admission
and must be able to submit proofs in support of their claims. No provisional
admission shall be provided to those candidates who are not submitting the
result of the qualifying examination (i.e. 10+2) at the time of
admission.

The Bar Council of India is responsible for legal education in India. It
has set a high academic standard of judicial studies in terms of classroom
teaching methods, practical training programs and skills, argument sessions,
court visits and legal aid work for law aspirants.There are numerous entrance exams conducted on All India basis as well
as individually by institutes or universities to provide admissions to
different law colleges and law universities in India.
The
different entrance exams for admission in to Law:
1. CLAT : (Common
Law Admission Test)
The Common Law Admission Test 2012 (CLAT 2012) 2010 will be conducted for
admission to the undergraduate programme at eleven National Law Universities
and also for the post-graduate programme (LL.M) for admission to NLSIU, NALSAR,
NLIU, WBNUJS, HNLU, GNLU, RMLNLU and RGNUL.
2. LAWCET: (Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test)
The
Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test(LAWCET) will be conducted by Sri
Venkateswara University (SVU),Tirupati on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State
Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for admissions into 3 year LL.B./B.L. and
5 year LL.B./B.L.
3. AILET: (All India Law Entrance Test)
All India
Law Entrance Test (AILET ) is conducted to take admission into undergraduate
and postgraduate courses in law offered by National Law University ( NLU),
Delhi.
4. RULET: (Rajasthan University LLB Entrance Test)
University
of Rajasthan conducts Rajasthan University LLB Entrance Test RULET for
admission into the first-year of the five-year undergraduate integrated B A LLB
programme, offered in the University and its various constituent colleges.
5. KLSAT: (KIIT Law School Admission Test)
KLSAT is
an entrance examination conducted by KIIT Law School conducts for admission to
its undergraduate Law courses like BA LLB, BBA LLB, BSc LLB.
6. AMU Law Entrance Exam: (Aligarh Muslim University Law Entrance Exam)
Aligarh
Muslim University Law Entrance Exam conducted by Aligarh Muslim University for
admission in to the LLB course.
7. ILICAT: (Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test)
Indian
Law Institute Common Admission Test (ILI CAT) is conducted by Indian Law
Institute, New Delhi for admission to its LLM program.
8. KLEE: (Kerala Law Entrance Exam)
Kerala
Law Entrance Examinations conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance
Examinations, Thiruvananthapuram. The for admission in to various courses
like 5 year L.L.B course, 3 year L.L.B course and 2 year L.L.M course.
9. LSAT: (Law School Admission Test)
India
is a standardized test adopted by Law School Admission Council, USA (LSAC)
specifically as an admission criteria by multiple law colleges across India for
admission to the three-year Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree programme and the
five-yearB.A.,LL.B.degree progrmme.
